Whether you call them parking stops, wheel blocks or curb stops, their purpose is the same: to help drivers determine the boundaries of a parking area. For many years, property owners had little choice when it came to selecting parking stops as virtually all of them were made of concrete that was often reinforced with rebar. In recent years the concrete car stops manufactured show a propensity to deteriorate rapidly from exposure to road salt and the weather. Today, however, it is possible to purchase parking stops that are made from recycled rubber, which offer several advantages over the traditional design.

Why should I use recycled parking stops? Or are they car stops?

  • Reduced weight
  • Reduced environmental impact
  • Increased durability
  • Flexible usage

WEIGHT

Traditional concrete parking stops weigh between 150 and 300 pounds each. Therefore, shipping can be costly, but it also means that it is essentially impossible for one man to move or install them. Unloading a shipment often requires a forklift or other special equipment. By contrast, parking blocks made from recycled rubber weigh between 16 and 40 pounds each. One person can easily move or install them, and shipping costs are much lower.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Recycling helps keep plastics, tires and other rubber products out of landfills. Traditional parking stops are difficult or impossible to recycle, making disposal a chore. However, using products recycled from post-consumer materials also presents a favorable image by demonstrating to the public that the business or property owner is environmentally responsible.

DURABILITY

Traditional concrete parking stops require painting if the property owner desires any color other than gray. Paint will chip, peel and fade, requiring regular maintenance. Parking stops made from recycled rubber can be purchased in a variety colors, including blue, safety yellow and basic gray or white. They will never need painting, and they will not rot or chip. Additionally, we often apply reflective tape to them if the property owner so desires.

FLEXIBILITY

If it becomes necessary to re-stripe the parking lot or changing its configuration, it can be a time-consuming, labor-intensive and costly chore to remove traditional parking stops and relocate them. Rubber parking blocks are easily moveable, due to their light weight. For example, this is especially convenient for parking areas that require frequent reconfiguration or modifications, such as converting a parking lot for an outdoor festival.

What should I call them? Car stops? Wheel stops? Bumper blocks?

These ubiquitous parking lot contraptions go by a lot of different names but no matter what words you use to describe them, they have the same purpose: to keep vehicles where they are supposed to be. It’s easy for vehicles to creep into sidewalks and handicap accessible areas, so car stops or parking blocks help drivers become better parkers. Whatever you call them, we can install them.
